Introducing TourguideRotimi

Hi, my name is Rotimi; I love traveling and I am also a tour guide.
I would be sharing stories of my tours with you and inviting you on some future tours.

My first post would be on one of my visits to Olumo rock. I have visited Olumo rock four times in all and every visit was always unique.
A brief history, Olumo rock is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nigeria, Its peak is at 137 metres above sea level. It is located in the ancient city of Abeokuta – a name which means “Under the rock”. Abeokuta was originally inhabited by the Egba people who found refuge at the Olumo rock during inter-tribal wars in the 18th century. The rock provided sanctuary to the people as well as a vantage point to monitor the enemy’s advance leading to the eventual triumph in war.
At my last visit to Olumo, the site now had a lovely mini museum and gift shop; with well-crafted art works, beads, attires, cards, books and so on; which could all serve as souvenirs for tourists. The mini museum was well managed by a customer friendly man whose name I can’t remember at the moment. There was nothing like this in my last three previous visits. Also, the restaurant has been revived.
On arrival at the peak of the rock, there is a place to sit and relax; it has some tablets in which a bit of history is inscribed upon. At the peak of Olumo, it feels like one can see all of Abeokuta. Other notable places can also be seen from the top of the rock.

Hope you join me on my next trip to Olumo
